CORROSHIELD® South Africa’s Guide to Roofing: Sheets, Screws, and More
At CORROSHIELD® South Africa, we understand the intricacies of roofing. One of the most critical aspects of a robust and durable roof is ensuring the correct number of sheets and screws. Our roofing fasteners, renowned for their quality and durability, are pivotal in holding the sheets to the battens. But how can you, our valued customer, determine the exact number of screws required?
Calculating the Number of Screws:
- Determine the Lineal Metres (LM) of Your Roof Sheets:
- Begin by calculating the total Lineal Metres (LM) of your roof sheets. This is achieved by multiplying the quantity of sheets by their respective lengths. For a comprehensive guide on calculating sheet length and quantity, please refer to our detailed resources.
- Calculate the Square Metres (Sqr.M) of Your Roof:
- After determining the LM, the next step is to calculate the Square Metres (Sqr.M) of your roof. This is done by multiplying the LM by the coverage area. For instance, the coverage area for corrugated iron, a popular choice, is 0.762m, as indicated by the 762 in its product name.
- Determine the Number of Screws:
- With the Sqr.M calculated, simply multiply this value by 7 to ascertain the number of our CORROSHIELD® screws you’ll need.
- Round Up for Safety:
- We always recommend having a few extra screws on hand. Therefore, round up your screw count to the nearest box of 100. For example, if your calculations suggest you need 520 screws, we’d advise ordering 600. If you require 590 screws, consider ordering 700 to be on the safe side.
Example: Let’s say you measure your roof and find that the required sheet length is 3m and you need 7 sheets. This gives an LM of 21 (3 x 7 = 21LM). Multiplying 21 by the coverage of 0.762 results in 16.002Sqr.M. Multiplying 16.002 by 7 gives a requirement of 112.014 screws. We’d recommend rounding 112 up to 200, meaning you’ll need 2 boxes of our CORROSHIELD® screws.
